Abu Shaw
Electrical Designer

From the time when Abu was shocked by a switch with a missing cover plate, he became interested in electricity and he wanted to know how it worked. Abu was born in Sierra Leone and grew up playing with magnets and small dc motors from toy cars. After moving to the States at age 9, he ended up going to college to study electrical engineering after high school but was faced with challenges. Abu ended up at Lehigh Carbon Community College and received an associate degree in electrical engineering technology. Then he was accepted at Penn State University – Berks for a bachelor’s program, to study Electro-mechanical Engineering Technology. While at Berks, his team won 2nd place for a bridge design and for his senior capstone project, his team was chosen to present their Turbojet Engine design and built to the engineering department at the university.

Abu received his bachelor’s degree in December 2021 while working a full-time job, volunteering at his local mosque, and competing in jiu-jitsu tournaments. Now he is at BSEG learning the electrical designer trade.
